Well, That’s NOT Going To Work In This Space!
Need a lamp for your space but the old one just doesn’t match anymore? I’m making a big-girl room for my stepdaughter and the old lampshade is NOT going to work. It is lime green and white, while the colors for her room-to-be will be Tiffany blue, purples, & pinks! So pretty!
Do you know how hard it is to find a Tiffany blue (that is what it’s called, I think?) lampshade? That’s all I need! I ALWAYS stick to budget-friendly projects, but I can’t find the lampshade I’m looking for in any price range!
Let’s Paint The Lampshade!
I recently bought some Satin Acrylic Paint in “Acapulco” from Walmart because 1. It was only $0.50 and 2. I was sure I would get the urge to paint something! Here’s a picture of what I bought. With a lampshade I’m never going to use again, plus my new acrylic paint, I decided to try and paint it. Hey, what do I have to lose? If it looks bad, I’ll toss it. Here is the lampshade before I painted it.
My intentions were to ONLY paint that bottom lime green portion. I wasn’t “too” careful around the ribbon that separates the green and white because, well, it wasn’t worth the time to me and I could just glue a new piece of ribbon over it when I was done. Time saver BONUS!
As I said, I only planned on painting the bottom, but then I “tried” to get really crafty and used a stencil to paint a pattern in the white portion. That failed! I probably didn’t do it right, but it bled and it wasn’t very straight. :/ Needless to say, I ended up having to paint the whole thing, and I LOVE the end result!
I already had the string of pearls in my craft closet so I put some hot glue on those babies and wrapped them around. The hanging “crystals” are from a kids’ chandelier we bought that arrived broken (The company told us to throw it away, but we saved these!). You can use anything with a hook to hang around the bottom of the lamp!
-I used a sponge brush, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It was kind of a pain. I would imagine a regular paint brush would be easier.
-Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint
-Embellishments of choice
Just paint, glue your embellishments, and place it on the lamp base! So easy! BONUS- the paint dries fast! How do you think it turned out? I’d love to hear any other ideas you have for transforming an old lampshade!
Be sure to keep an eye out for the ENTIRE bedroom makeover, as well as other projects I do throughout the room! It will definitely be fabulous!
SHOUT OUT to the stores for NOT having a lampshade that I was envisioning! FIRE UP for acrylic paint that only costs $0.50!
